The Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS) and USA Powerlifting (USAPL) held a joint press conference on Monday June 12, 2023 to protest a district court’s ruling that USAPL must cease operations in Minnesota unless it permits male athletes to compete against women in powerlifting competitions. April’s Story
ICONS is proud to stand by April Hutchinson and support her quest for fair competition in Women’s Powerlifting. April has been forced to compete against a male athlete for years in a number of Powerlifting competitions. She finally had enough and decided to speak out in support of women! Her national federation has threatened and intimidated her, trying to censor her speech. This harassment has made it necessary for April to obtain legal counsel because she knows she cannot give away her rights without a fight.
April has been a bold advocate for women, appearing on US-based and international television shows, podcasts, and news stories. She is encouraging women around the globe to stand up and speak out for their rights. We must be able to support athletes like April when they need financial backing to fight for women’s sports.
